A Drawing to Keep

I've decided that when we have a house, instead of hanging photographs in our living room, I'm going to start a collection of family portraits done by various artists. How much fun will that be? It will be our own little art gallery ♥

It is so hard to photograph pencil... I'm not 100% satisfied with this drawing, mostly because I'M in it and I am way not a fan of drawing myself. But Juniper and Shaun turned out cute so I'll let it pass. This drawing was my waiting room entertainment while I was pregnant. (I spent a lot of time in waiting rooms...)

It has been a REALLY long time since I've drawn anything for me to keep. Everything I've drawn in the past 5 years has been a commissioned piece, and I've made it a goal to get a drawing into every state. So far I've got 10! Someday though, this whole map will be blue! I am so glad you are my sister. Even though when we were kids you totally took advantage of how gullible I am. But hey, some of my best memories involve you making me believe crazy things! Let's Do This!

I have been trying to get myself out of this lame artistic slump I've been in ever since I lost my job. (How do people take care of toddlers and still make time to be creative? Some tips would be greatly appreciated!) I've got my handmade Christmas list all made up, now let's see if I can live up to my own crazy expectations!

A lot of people on my list are getting drawings this year. (They're the easiest to ship!) I've got the photos all picked out. I've never done this many drawings in one month before.. Heck, I don't think I've this many drawings in a whole year before! So to get me inspired to start working on them, I've been going through some of my old work. Here are some of my favorites.

Baby's First Portrait

I just wanted to share this because I'm in love with it. My little sister Tesha drew me this while we were visiting family in CT. I love the little dancing, happy fetus! (And apparently it's a boy!) And I love that Juniper and I are the same size. I love my sister ♥

Art Journal - Entry #1

I started an art journal of sorts. It's not in book form yet. I'll bind all of the pages together once I'm done. I finished the first page today. This is probably the most therapeutic thing I have ever done. It's hard for me to explain how I've been feeling lately, but by the time I was done with this illustration, I felt so much better.

It's also the first time I've ever done something this conceptual. (I'm more of a realist when it comes to drawings) I enjoyed not having any rules. I just drew whatever was in my mind.
